The Satellite of Things: Where Teleports Play in IoT
Wed. March 14| 3:15 PM - 4:15 PM | 201
The growth forecasts for the Internet of Things are off the charts. The big questions for ground segment and satellite operators is how they are to capture the value of that growth. While most IoT traffic will traverse terrestrial wireless networks, only the "Satellite of Things" can realize the ubiquitous global connectivity that IoT evangelists envision, touching cars and trucks, ships and aircraft, and bridging urban, suburban and rural geographies. Giant carriers and technology companies will inevitably win the lion's share of IoT business, but the Internet of Things is evolving less as an industry than as an ecosystem, where the specific skillsets of multiple industries are needed. Where can teleport operators play in the IoT space? What partnerships - including with satellite operators - are needed to provide a compelling value proposition? What business development strategies will capture customers and what technologies do service providers need to bring to the table?
